Precision in almost every dimension
Our product portfolio ranges from oversized rotary tables (see below) to our smallest air bearing series. Despite its small dimensions, DLL 021 Micro has an integrated high-resolution measuring system and contactless drive unit.

New: Concave calotte bearing - KKL
With the new rotary air bearing of the KKL model series we have once more been able to enhance the accuracy and reliability of air bearings.
Since we always strive to achieve the highest possible precision, the new KKL is almost entirely produced at ess according to our manufacturing principles. This is the only way that we can ensure that the individual components fulfil our demands of technical perfection and form a complete, perfect and precise bearing.
Our motivation, perfectionism and fascination for mechanics guarantee that each bearing is a masterpiece of bearing architecture.
The technical data will be published soon. It will then be available under Rotary bearings.
After more than 12 months of development and production, we have finally made it.
The world’s largest and most precise rotary bearing goes one better than all the other bearing types.
With a diameter in excess of 1.8 metres and a rotation weight of approx. 2 tonnes this rotary table deviates only 120nm (nanometres) from the centre axis when being rotated around its own axis.
The deviation in Z direction, i.e. the vertical motion, when being rotated is only 100nm.
The bearing has been designed for maximum loads of 5 tonnes.
Due to its special size and precision, brand new production strategies had to be applied for some stages of the manufacturing process. This included, for example, processes from the nuclear power plant construction industry and techniques used by watch and clockmakers.
The mechanical error of the faces, which are vital for the precision of the bearing, is not greater than 1.5µm. This meant that, in order to grind the bearing faces, a machine which can grind parts with a diameter of up to 2m to an evenness of 1µm (micrometer) had to be specially constructed.

Clean room is now EUV-suitable
Due to increased demands, the clean room, which was put into operation last year, has been upgraded by integrating special filters for EUV applications.
Brochures available as downloads
Technical data and images of some of our products are now available as PDF files under Download. You can download this print version in German and English. Donation instead of gifts
In 2008, we again decided to forego sending gifts to our customers, and instead donated the money to a non-profit organisation.
The donation went to the FED (Familien Entlastender Dienst) in Tuttlingen, Germany. This organisation cares for handicapped people – especially children.
This service provides valuable respite time for the relatives who care for these people. Time to visit a doctor, to go shopping or to simply spend an hour or two on their own.
After paying several visits to this organisation, we witnessed just how happy the handicapped children are during the hours they spend there.
And the same applies to the relatives, who are so grateful for the respite time this organisation provides.
We are, of course, aware that our donation is only a small drop in the ocean, but we are satisfied that it has been invested in a worthy cause.
We hope you share our opinion.

Clean room technology for mechanical high-end components
The new laboratory and clean room of ess Mikromechanik GmbH was put into operation and presented to a large circle of customers and interested parties on 1 March 2008.
Where production machines had, until recently, been in operation, new clean rooms for the production of ultra-precise air bearings and system technologies opened their doors on Monday, 3 March 2008. These laboratories are more dust-free than any operating theatre, since the smallest mechanical components for the semiconductor industry and medical and measurement technologies are to be produced and assembled here in the near future. High-end air bearings will be additionally assembled, tested and inspected in this room.
Special air bearings for application in clean rooms and in vacuum systems made this step necessary.
New in our product range: µ grinder
Ultra precision – compact design – maximum efficiency – suitable for serial production
The new ultra-precision grinding machine µ grinder is a novelty in the precision machine building sector. Components can be produced with a radial accuracy and a max. axial run-out of <= 0.2µm on state-of-the-art axis systems and air bearing spindles.
Find out more about the technical data soon in the left-hand navigation bar.
